Following the ketogenic diet can be a challenge if you are not familiar with the best foods to consume. In this post I’ll be sharing with you a complete ketosis foods list.
So let’s begin familiarizing with ketosis foods.
What you can eat freely:
This is the pillar of your ketogenic diet.
The foods you should focus on consuming are going to be animal meats and fats, healthy fats and non-starchy vegetables.
Animal meats and fats:
Some suggest that you don’t exaggerate on high protein meats like turkey and chicken because of glucogenesis (the process of turning protein into glucose, which can stall your ketosis). Personally, I haven’t had any problems consuming high quantities of protein, as long as you keep a consistent exercise routine you should be fine.
These ketosis foods are perfect for roasts and pan fried dishes. Give preference to grass fed, unprocessed organic meats.
Some spices that accompany most of these foods well include: Rosemary, Cumin, Black Pepper and Garlic.
- Chicken fat
- Duck fat
- Clarified Butter
- Fish Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Avocado Oil
- Olive Oil
- Macadamia Oil
During a ketogenic diet most animal fats should be fine. However, the list provided above should be your preference when it comes to healthy fats.
You can also add avocado to your meals, it is a great way to add extra fat to your dishes. Something I have been in love with is to make a pork shoulder roast and serve it with avocados and zucchini.
As always try to steer clear of heavily processed fat products. Organic is always better.
Low Starch Vegetables:
- Bok Choy
Your focus here should be on leafy vegetables. AVOID potatoes and yams.
You want to consume high fiber vegetables, remember that fiber is a non-digestible carbohydrate, so you can exclude them from your net carbs of your macro.
Vegetables are a great way to make your dishes feel more filling and they also help your digestion. Buying a spiralizer is a good idea if you want to make your vegetable dished more interesting.
By giving preference to the vegetables in this list you should be able to stay in ketosis.
- Pork Rinds
- Herb Spices
- Lemon and Limes
- Whey Protein
- Zero Sugar Jello
- Heavy Cream
- Egg Whites
- Nuts (but be careful)
Gin and Vodka are recommended if you are reaching weight maintenance stages of your diet. However, you can still consume them in moderation if your goal is to lose weight.
Stock up on some of these ketosis foods and you will have no issues following your diet.
Look up some recipes and lock up your carbs!
